So, for the last 3 weeks or so I've had my fix of the lads in one form or another, but am now starting to feel withdrawal symptoms...(mildly solved by multiple CDs!), and so was checking various tour dates to see what there was before Oxford next year...hence me finding this little bauble:Tue December 18thRoyal Festival Hall BallroomLONDONBellowhead Christmas RevelsHas anyone got any more information on this, or know when tickets might be available? ((I have no intention of missing out!).

Yeah sounds good doesn't it!

No news of tickets yet however, I think it going to be a case of keep checking back to see when they go on sale.

Hi All,

The really great news is that we'll be Artists in Residence at the SBC for the next year, maybe longer. What that means is anyone's guess at the moment, but it's an incredible opportunity and we're hoping to use it to produce some really spectacular work, engage in some interesting collaborations and spin off in all kinds of unexpected directions. Any ideas welcome!

Pete

When you guys played the Scala the first time the gig was in several parts, with Bellowhead's set divided up by sets from individual members. I recall Benji played solo and Farmyard Animals played. I think there were a few other spots too...

Anyway, I'd like to see another gig like that. Would it be possible to use the Artist In Residence thing to put together a Bellowhead-related gig? You've got at least the following to pick from: Jon & John, John solo, Farmyard Animals, Faustus, Benji solo, the 2 Pauls/Belshazar's Feast, Alva, Crosscurrent. I'm sure Jon could do something from his solo album too, plus a few dozen possible combinations of members (Christmas carols from Jon, John, Giles and Ian Giles anyone? )

Would that work?

Cheers

Nick

Have also booked mine.

Presumably Giles won't be playing as it clashes with Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band in Salisbury for which I also have a ticket. I have therefore written that off as a loss unless anyone would like it and have rebooked for the Oxford Town Hall gig on 15th December.

Am also trying to book for the Magpie Lane gig in Oxford on 16th December so I'd better get the presents early as the shopping days are becoming very restricted.

Where did you get the Carnival Band tickets from? It's still showing as unconfirmed on their website and I've been unable to book through the playhouse website as usual. I was going to see them at Reading but that clashes with Karine Polwart..... you can't win.

Does anyone know if the Christmas Revels night at the RFH is going to be a seated gig? The RFH website invites you to "choose your seat" when booking, but I was just wondering...

I hope not! We just presumed it was that way because that is how all the booking on the RFH website seems to work...Still, even if it is, we're near the front

Yes, I sort of doubt that it would be all seated (and hope it won't), but it's a long time since I've been to the RFH, so wasn't sure about what their website is implying. In fact I'm not sure I've been to the RFH Ballroom before, so it'd be good to find out in advance... Haven't got our tickets yet, but am trying to get it sorted.

Anyway, you can't keep a Bellowhead audience in their seats, can you?

I thought I  saw somewhere when booking tickets that it was not reserved seating, so assumed that it was standing, after all it is a ballroom,  but I could be wrong.    I  I loved Shrewsbury FF on the  whole but I know a lot of people behind us were unhappy because we were stood up.     But then you gotta dance to Bellowhead, it would of been awful to of stayed sat down.

If I remember correctly the ballroom is actually part of one of the main foyers, so there are no 'theatre style' seats there. Somewhere to sit if you need to (I have to sit down more these days) and somewhere to dance is the best thing! At the Overture weekend in the summer they had these inflatable 'bean bags' all over the place which were great, though quite easy to topple off if you weren't a little careful!.

Cheers

I, like Fee, have problems standing for long periods (lower back and calf pain/numbness mostly) so the Bellowhead gig at Manchester Academy, and  indeed at Bury Met, was a bit of a trial. I love to get up and dance for a bit but then want to sit and do some sedentry dancing!Squeezy often mentions this paticular form of  British self-expression. I dunno how I've managed to cope with WOMAD for the last two years without my trusty tripod folding chair.  Although it wasn't that much use this year, what with the mud and consequent sinking of said stool!

I seem to be rambling now...

That sounds ideal. Just a bit confused by the RFH website, which tells you to "select your own seat" but also that it's "unreserved seating".

And speaking personally I always bring my own seat with me anyway. Though I always dance too.

There is a telephone number on the Park Records which strangely enough gets you through to Park Records who will sell you ticket(s).

I checked the Town Hall web site and it's definitely booked.

Where is Karine Polwart playing please. I was going to see her in London but think that this clashes with S & B in Portsmouth and as they were so good in Totton I thought I'd go and see them again.

That's perfectly acceptable, unless of course you're a soldier or a sailor!

I find that the excitement masks the backache, at least until I get home and have a comfortable chair to sit in...

Thanks Trunkles, Had a look at the Carling Academy and didn't much like the look of it! No bags ,charge for coats etc but perhaps I'm being prejudiced. Anyway on checking dates I see Karine is in London on 11th not 18th so I shall probably go there.

Carling Academy has scored some black marks already in its first month open. The newly enlarged Downstairs venue is a long, thin hall and the stage is very low. This means if you're less than 5ft 5 and more than about a dozen people back from the front you won't see a thing. We saw Seth Lakeman play in there, or rather, I saw Seth while friends saw the backs of other people's heads. After the gig people were queuing for half an hour to get their coats back so boo to the cloakroom too. Oh, and the box office is outside and they're really slow at handling tickets bought online. We had a nice long queue in the rain to pick up tickets, although the door guys were lending out umbrellas which was quite a surprise!

Anyway, the Academy is supposed to offer several venues of different sizes. Downstairs is the biggest, Upstairs is now the middle-sized room and is apparently still the same as the Zodiac days (high stage with good visibility. It's also rumoured to be clean enough to brave a visit to the loos now!) There's also supposed to be a third, small room somewhere. Any idea which venue Karine Polwart is playing in? I hope it's not the big Downstairs hall.

Cheers

Still off topic...) Not sure which bit of the Academy Karine will be in, but according to the website it's a seated event, so the view may not be such a problem. I haven't been to the new Oxford Academy myself, it's too far from home. It must be (ahem) years since I went to a gig in Oxford. But I did get a good report of the Academy from someone who saw Patti Smith there recently.

Trying to decide whether to see Karine Polwart elsewhere on her tour. She's playing in Cambridge too.

The Carling Academy is still a dump even now they have redone it. It's just as Nick pointed out - it to long and thin, a ridiculous box office outside the venue and pricely as well. I was going to see the Oysters there in a few weeks but I'm rather having second thought after the Seth gig.

The queue in the rain for tickets almost caused us to miss Benji K's support slot  We got in just in time for the last two songs. Sorry Benji. Blame the venue! At least I got a copy of the EP from the merch stand...

Same here, whats the point of buying tickets in advance if you still have to queue out side for 20 minutes! What a waste of time...
