Hey - I'm a newbie on these boards, but a Bellowhead fan of 18 months. Just got the new CD here as well - it's utterly fantastic, and well worth the wait. So great to be able to hear each number in detail at last and dwell over the intricacies of playing and arrangements (when I'm not dancing manically round the bedroom, that is...).

Congratulations and thanks to one and all - a superb achievement, which deserves to be a big success!

I got mine today also, a bit earlier than I expected.

I had a listen to it on the kitchen CD player when I got home from work and wasn't too sure about it. I've now had the chance to listen to it properley (and wind up the volume a bit) and I have to say I'm very impressed and can't wait to see where their tour takes them (East Anglia hopefully).

Big thumbs up for the artwork too - the whole package is superb.

Well done everyone involved. It's a real triumph.

Now when are we going to get some tour dates ? Soon, I hope

Wooh! wasn't expecting it till Monday but it arrived this morning and what a fantastic start to the weekend!  my other half and I have had it on full blast all evening (great not having neighbours) and are dancing round the living room like the drunken idiots we are

particularly happy to finally have a recording of rigs of the time, always my favourite bit of the live shows!

thanks so much boys and rachael - haven't been this excited about an album since I was a teenager!

I have it! I wasn't prepared to wait until I got back from hols so I had it pre-ordered and sent through to my best friend's place, where it's now on its second listen-through.  (Very tiresome--her flat has horribly thin walls so I can't blast it out at full volume and cavort round the living room the way I'd like to.)

At the moment I'm still feeling the love, so to speak, so enlightened commentary will have to wait until later.  I'm particularly taken with Hopkinson's Favorite, Rigs of the Times, Jordan and of course Fire Marengo.  Unfortunately, Courting Too Slow is as much of a yawn as it was on Bellow.  Oh, and I'm in love with Outlandish Knight all over again , and best mate kept having to slap my hand away from the volume control on that one, because otherwise I would have woken up the entire building.

Fortunately best mate heard Bellowhead at WOMAD with me, and is very taken with Jon, so she doesn't object to her abode being taken over by Bellowhead.  This is just as well--she's got a week of Bellowhead monopolising her CD player.

Love it.

Love it love it love it love it love it love it love it love it.

Oh and by the way did I tell you I love it?

I was so excited when I got home from a crappy day from work over a week ago and saw it lying on the doormat.  It went straight on the stereo and I've been driving my flatmates crazy with it ever since!!

Great stuff.  Well done guys!

Got mine at the weekend. For once I didn't buy it online, but got it off Paul Sartin at his hilarious '2Pauls' (formerly 'Belshazzar's Feast') gig in Whitchurch. If you ever get a chance to see Paul Sartin and Paul Hutchinson live, do so - it's really quite a larf.

Of course, all the songs are great. It's a bit of a shame that the tracks are all the ones that Bellowhead have been playing for the last 3 years. It's more of a catch-up album really - they should have had a full album out ages ago. Hope we don't have to wait so long for the next one. But that doesn't stop them being top-quality songs.

I don't find 'Courting Too Slow' to be as interesting in the symphonic version (as it were) as with J&Js recording. Not sure why, it just doesn't grab me as much, maybe because slow quiet ballads don't suite the big-band sound. However, if Bellowhead wanted to do a new version of 'Earl Richard' you wouldn't hear me complaining.

I laugh everytime I hear the 'blokes chorus' in 'London Town', not because it's a blokes chorus, but because you've never heard such a middle-class-sounding bunch of blokes in your life

'Rigs Of The Times' oddly doesn't seem to have the same oomph as I've heard it live. Did Jon decide to tone down his performance for the studio version?

Favourite track at the moment: 'Across The Line'

a new version of 'Earl Richard'

I wonder if they've considered the variant 'Young Redin' which bounces along in Bold Sir Rylas stylee?

Hehe, and not just in 'London Town'! I thought 'Fire Marengo' a bit Thames Valley stockbrokerish and prefer the live disco version on the website. My favourite tracks today? 'One May Morning Early' and 'Frog's Legs & Dragon's Teeth'.

Oh you lot are really winding me up.

I won't buy it off the site because I have issues with Paypal and I won't give them my bank details.

I have to wait till Loughborough - oh the agony!

A review of Burlesque appears in this morning's Guardian. It's surprisingly lukewarm, although I appreciate the reviewer is encumbered by lack of space and the inevitable need to explain what it's all about to first-timers. In particular, though, I'm not certain the second paragraph, particularly with its comment about ballads, really does it justice. A bit of a shame, all in all.

Anyway, see what you think:

I'm entirely with Robin Denselow on this. Much as I currently love the drunken bum take on Flash Company now, and probably will for some time to come, I fear that I may eventually tire of the novelty in much the same way as the pissed Morris dancers on Morris On stopped being funny about 30 years ago. It's hard to herd versions in the right order into a tracklist that will remain perennially timeless. With Burlesque, that's been achieved a lot more effectively than most efforts to encapsulate an essentially immediate, live experience. Yes, it's best to see them right upfront and in person. But this CD is a more than adequate substitute for in between, and the fantastic packaging makes it a lovely thing to have anyway.

Is there the slightest chance that I can get my hands on a copy of this CD in Australia? Ok so I only discovered Bellowhead a few months ago, from hearing the Folk Awards, but I really enjoyed it and I want to avoid ordering from the UK if at all possible.

Thanks heaps,
Queenie

Do you have HMV in Australia?, I saw it on sale in HMV in Canada (Vancouver) the other day (she says, sounding a bit jet set...) so it may be worth checking the other big chain record shops.

I got mine last week (how slow am I?) but I had been promised it as a gift so I wasn't going to spoil it by spending my own money!

It's great, had it full blast on Saturday as we were driving to Tesco - some very strange looks from the local townies!

It's so shiny and Pauls notes are very detailed - it puts my programme notes to shame...
