Currently insanely jealous of those able to go to gigs because i have just moved to NZ, and all my friends in the UK are going to see them at the Sage, Gateshead in October.
Songs was the only album i didn't have (due to it always being sold out) and my friends bought me it as a leaving present. i listened to it on the plane, over and over again, on repeat....

As a relatively recent folk convert (I'm still unsure how I managed to live life to the age of 23 without without having been exposed to ANY!), I have to fully admit to this one:
"You have to jump to their honour if someone calls them sad (e'g unenlightened miscreants who listen to chart music....shudder)and threaten to poke said miscreant with shiny morris sword/stick for their hideous slander!"
And a fair few of the others...
In fact, have had either Prickle-eye bush or London town stuck in my head ever since Cambridge folk fest this year (even woke up with it still in my head at 4:30 a couple of days ago ). Worrying, no? :P

Happens all the time, so it sounds fairly normal to me!
Not that I'm claiming to be any kind of expert on normalness.

I'm sure they don't mind me going to SO MANY of their gigs, they are always pleasant and friendly, probably becausei have actually started to feel as though i alone fund half of their tour dates! (i definately keep them in beer money!)
You and me both! I get the feeling I might start getting recognised soon! :*
Speaking of beer money, was quite suprised to find myself next to John at the bar at The Bully on Sunday, *buying* beer. They don't get free drinks, considering that everyone there was there *because* of them?!

Sorry, that was a bit mean.
Riders are pretty rare in the folk world. Folk concerts are run on a shoestring by both the venue and the promoter/band. Imagine laying on free drinks for all of Bellowhead!
The way I see it, if the concert is good and yer-man (or woman) is at the bar, buy them a drink. If it helps make the players happy it'll make the gig go better so it's good all round
Cheers
Nick

Well, funnily enough, my first instinct was to buy him a drink! And when I said John, I did in fact mean Jon. Get me. It's been a long week.. (already?!)
The only reason I didn't was more to do with me being a little star-struck, and not wanting to appear a lunatic blithering idiot in front of him! (mind you, that ain't too far from the truth..). So instead I probably appeared terribly rude. Sorry Jon! Next time..
Advice noted Nick - will try harder next time :-)

I was in John's band at Folkworks youth summer school in '06. I was unashamed to simply appear as a blithering idiot!
