Stradling & Yates strike again! I just wanted to draw people's attention to the renewed criticism of Jon Boden's arrangements and interpretation raised by these luminaries on the MusTrad site and taken up at fRoots. To me, it's all about an understanding of respect for the tradition while conventions are there to be broken. However, it's my belief that Jon's eloquent and spirited response deserves wider publicity and consideration.fRootsMusTrad

Hear, hear..... An excellent reply by Jon that really does make the point very well.

Sing it out loud and strong

Jon's response is very good indeed.

My one issue with Flash Company is that it serves to emphasise just how badly Jon needs a new suit

Cheers

Not when you have a pretty good idea of how long he's had the suit... , though I think the pink tie sets it off perfectly.

Anyhow...enough frivolity! Who cares what he wears, the man is a musical marvel (and scarily clever, it would appear) whatever Messrs Stradling and Yates may think!

Cheers

I agree!  And it is, indeed, an excellent reply!

Although I enjoyed reading JB's kick-ass response to some unconstructive criticism, does he really need to explain himself? I understand why one does - artistic temperament will out and all that but there is no need to justify what is already clearly a success in the eyes and ears, of the, 'Hearts and Minds' of all those that make up an ever increasing fan base. Somebody quite important from a little band called Radiohead said something like it is one thing to do things differently but unless you have a following like this band (Bellowhead), ..... I can't remember the rest. On a personal note, I would not have touched folk music with a long pointy stick on fire. Since an accidental attendance at a Bellowhead gig nearly 12 months ago, I am exploring all sorts of music instead of being ensconced in an endless stream indie chart rock that sounds pretty much all the same. Maybe this is what worries a few of the traddies. 'Mustn't cross the boundaries chaps, you never know who might come this way.' JB et al - keep doing the do.
