The worst bit of it was that we listened so many times that we've now invented a semi-dance akin to Shepps' Prickle-eye bush dance...
You may also need to bear in mind that this was, in fact, an 11pm conversation. 11pm being, in our house at the moment, more akin to 1am in anyone else's...

I know this is folk, but, Sir Rylas is a bit of a git isn't he?
It's certainly a bit of an extreme reaction. I mean blackmail isn't nice but cutting her head in two... it's a bit much.

... am now convinced Sir Rylas is in fact a Monty Python knight alongside Brave Sir Robin etc.
Have you heard the "missing" verses in which, of course, Bold Sir Rylas boldly runs away?
Yes, Trunkles, I'd agree, "a bit of an extreme reaction" is correct. But then again where would folk music be without extreme reactions?

Oh, now how much do I want someone to write them and J+J to play them!

I've only had time for the one paltry verse so far. I'm sure there are plenty more:
Then Bold Sir Rylas boldly away ran
All along and down a lea
And Bold Sir Rylas boldly away ran
Down by the river side
Away he ran with all his might
Desp'rate to avoid the fight
Down in the grove where the wild flowers grow
etc.

Very good, but I'd be tempted to use either
"Bold Sir Rylas away boldly ran" OR "Bold Sir Rylas boldly away did run" to make it fit better with the music Or possibly even "Brave Sir Rylas boldy away did run", if I may dare to hack at the words even more...I trust Jon could make them sound right, he manages so well with everything else

As with almost every verse of every folk song I've ever come across, I'm sure there is plenty of room for individual interpretation.
I didn't pay all that much attention to making the thing scan because I reckoned that J&J could make the words fit expertly, as always.

Then Bold Sir Rylas boldly away ran....
But he could hardly be called Bold Sir Rylas if he keeps running away. Cowardly Sir Rylas possibly...

But if he is, by definition, Bold Sir Rylas, then if he did run away then to be sure he'd do it boldly.
Like Brave Sir Robin, who was put into my head by Betty slippers above.
