Hi just returned from a very muddy trowbridge fest. can you tell me why when told that bellowhead could do one more song/tune they left the stage!
Yeah, that was such as shame - I don't think their was a single person there who wasn't calling for more. Listening to a number of discussions afterwards there was a lot of bad feeling towards the group and many comments about their 'poor' attitude which I know isn't true. It was a good set as always but a sad way for it to end...
Roll on Cambridge...

Hi there,
Firstly I'd like to say that we're really sorry for any confusion about getting an encore at Trowbridge. We were told at the start that we couldn't do one even if the audience wanted it as there was only half an hour to get us off, get Kate Rusby on and have them line check the instruments. As we've been in that position before, we didn't think it was fair to give Kate's band even less time or make the concert run late.
Secondly, even when the compere was saying we could do another, the stage manager was telling us to come off - and he's in charge! It's hard at festivals if you're not the last act, people always think it's the band being arsey, but it's usually because the festival can't run over time. If the stage manager had told us we could have an encore then we would have gone off 5 minutes earlier and come back on to do our last number.
So if anyone feels short changed - I'm really sorry, but it really was out of our hands.
Cheers,
Squeezy

Thanks Squeezy
It was the compere's mistake, he just needed to come out and say there was no time rather than us all leading on as he did. It would have saved a good deal of bad feeling in the end.
I don't think any of us have any reason to feel short changed - it was just one of thoses things

Thanks for the explanation Squeezy. It was a great gig and a shame that the compere got it so wrong.
We were at the very front of the crowd and could see the confusion and the obvious embarrassment when you had to come back on stage to collect your instruments.
I really felt an explanation from the compere/stage manager was called for.
Anyway, just wanted to say thank you for my birthday dedication - I am still trying to work out of the Rochdale Coconut Dance was a deliberate choice!
Oxford Trunkles - missed you AGAIN. Are you the invisible woman

I was around for a bit, but I have been festival jumping between Cambridge and Span fest so only making flying visits.

I just assumed it was cos those microphones kept falling off the melodeon!
Some people at the front seemed at bit miffed cos they saw the guy gesture for one more, but my friends at the back said they couldn't really see what was going on.
People were booing the compere and cheering the band, so I think most people realised you guys didn't have much choice. On the plus side, everyone seemed to think it was a great set.
Cheers guys. You were the highlight of a very wet and muddy festival!

It was indeed a brilliant set, a splendid highlight & probably even better for surviving the floods & the mud ! Thanks guys! (Hope the trombone has floated home by now)..... We probably shouldn't have been expecting more as seems to be a festival policy not to allow encores period. I heard a few slight moans, but certainly not directed at the band.....everyone could see you were in a difficult position.
I guess I was leaping about somewhere near you Trunkles & Dr Jimmy, - do you wear pink ties or other signifying attire so I will be able to say hi next time? Or should I just be looking for particularly vigorous pogoing?

I'm usually the tallest in the crowd, which makes me popular! Good view though.
On Sunday I was wearing a Bath Ales t-shirt and probably getting very excited during Bellowhead and Kate Rusby.
How about you, your highness? Any distinguishing features?

Taller than Nick of this parish? This I have to see... . I remember seeing an equally tall person at the Jericho one night for a J&J gig, was that you?
Cheers

I remember that elevated person in the Jericho too. You really needed to be careful who you stood behind that night.

We were sat right at the back and thought it was a stunning set, the missing trombone part seemed to open up the arrangements along with improvisation around the gaps - the shouting at the end just went to confirm how good the crowd thought it was.

P.S. that was the fastest version of Jordan so far!
