We are coming down to the Oxfest in April and we don't know the area at all. Can anyone recommend a nice hotel; preferably nicer than a travel inn and family friendly. I have looked on the interwebthingy but they all seem to be a bit remote and it would be good to find one within staggering distance so that i don't just have to watch my hubby smile round his real ale while i jingle the car keys in bitter fashion.Also, can you recommend something to do the next day with a 10 year old? (keep it sensible - spit-roasting is not an option!) We thought about driving down to Legoland at Windsor but if there is something closer it would be great! Thanks, Bev.

Hi there

I'm afraid to say that if you want to stay in the centre of Oxford you'll be looking at quite a hefty hotel bill...we are offering rooms in Jesus College at a reasonable rate (contact Sandra on info@oxfordfolkfestival.com , there may still be some left).  The bus service in Oxford is pretty good though, they run to 11.30 on most routes I think (and there's night bus service, I expect you won't need that if you have your offspring with you!), so you may not need to drive.

If your ten year old likes trains Didcot Railway Centre may be an option, it's south of Oxford off the A34. Or if you're of more of an outdoor type bring a kite and go fly it off Whittenham Clumps (big hill - and iron age hill fort - again to south of Oxford) , or you can have a bracing walk on the Ridgeway!.

Hi everyone,

The Holiday Inn on the PearTree Roundabout is actually a really nice hotel. Plus it is right next door to the park and ride which saves the expensive parking fees in Oxford, and there is lots of free parking at the hotel!

Cotswold Wildlife Park is a nice place to visit especially if you have children. Or the Pitt Rivers museum.
